Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/17/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring prior neuro, trauma level 1, and travel experience in Illinois. Responsibilities - Work in a Neuro Medical-Surgical Acute unit within an acute care hospital - 54-bed unit with patient diagnoses including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and medical overflow - Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights - 12-hour day shifts (0700-1900) with every other weekend and holiday rotation - Floating required in rotation with unit staff, with travelers assigned a full team on general units - Unit utilizes Epic EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips - Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7 - Assistance from nurse aides/patient care techs is provided, with ratios of 1:9-12 - Responsibilities include titration of heparin drips and care of neurological and medical overflow patients - Orientation includes 2 days with computer and unit-specific training alongside a preceptor - No required scrub color; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty - COVID vaccination is not required for this position - No call or standby responsibility - Holiday and weekend coverage is required as assigned - Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at local rates Requirements - Active IL RN license required at time of consideration - Minimum of 1 year of RN experience - Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required - Level 1 trauma experience required - Prior travel assignment experience required (no first time travelers) - Previous experience on a dedicated neuro unit required - Experience with titrating heparin drips based on PTT is required Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-625097.
