Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift in
a surgical acute unit, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS
certification. Responsibilities - Work in an acute care hospital
setting on the Surgical Acute Medical-Surgical unit - Patient
population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical
requiring wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NG
tubes, central lines, and TPN - Unit has 63 beds, including 49
private and 9 observation beds - Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5
per RN on days and 5-6 per RN on nights - Some patients are on
telemetry (Phillips monitors); monitor techs read strips - Uses
Epic EMR system - Night shifts are 12 hours, 1900-0700, with every
other weekend and holiday rotation - Travelers will float first to
similar level units - Responsibilities include post-operative care,
wound management, IV therapy, and pain management - Charge nurse
and house supervisor are present on each shift and do not take
patient assignments - Patient care techs assist with ADLs, vitals,
turning, and ambulation - Unit utilizes CPAP and high-flow oxygen;
RNs manage inhalers and CPAP - Block scheduling may be considered
if approved at contract signing - Scrubs of any color are permitted
- Orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor plus one shift
focused on Epic EMR and professional/unit education - Travelers do
not self-schedule - No call or standby requirements - No vaccine
requirements for COVID-19 - Local pay rates apply for candidates
residing within 50 miles Requirements - Active IL RN license
required at time of consideration - Current BLS certification (AHA)
required - Minimum of 1 year acute care RN experience - Experience
with post-op care, critical thinking skills, and solid bedside
