Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/10/2025 - Duration: 18 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit night shift position requiring an active IL license and prior neuro and travel experience. Responsibilities - Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting - Patient population includes those with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience conditions, with some medical overflow - Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights - Utilizes Epic EMR and Philips telemetry monitors, with nurses not required to interpret strips independently - 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), with every other weekend and every other holiday required - Floating required in rotation with the staff, with full assignments on general units and limited duties when floated elsewhere - Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7 for support - Primary responsibilities include caring for complex neuro patients, titrating heparin drips, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams - RNs may provide high flow oxygen therapy for stable patients as needed - Patient care techs and nurse aides provide support, with ratios varying by shift - Unit orientation includes two days with a preceptor and educator - No call or standby requirement - No specific scrub color, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed while on duty - COVID vaccination is not required - Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate Requirements - Active IL RN license required at time of consideration - Minimum 1 year of RN experience - Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required - Must have prior travel nurse experience (first-time travelers will not be considered) - Prior dedicated neuro unit experience required - Level 1 trauma experience required - Experience with heparin titration based on PTT is needed Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-627288.
