Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 12/15/2025 - Duration: 18 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring recent neuro unit and Level 1 trauma experience in Illinois. Responsibilities - Position is in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit of an acute care hospital - Unit has 54 beds, including 2 semi-private rooms - Day shift: 12-hour shifts (0700-1900); schedule is three 12-hour shifts per week - Weekend and holiday rotation required (every other weekend and every other holiday) - Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights - Typical patient diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience cases, as well as some medical overflow - Must titrate heparin drips based on PTT; heparin gtt experience required - Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience required - Phillips telemetry monitors are used; nurses do not need to read their own strips - Floating required in rotation with staff; general unit travelers take a full team and float outside area only within competency and with unit support - No on-call or standby requirement - Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7; charge nurse does not typically have a patient assignment - Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:9-12 depending on shift - Orientation consists of 2 days with educator and preceptor, including hands-on and computer training - No specific scrub color required; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed - COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this role - Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a different rate - Unit cares for occasional stable COVID-19 patients on high flow as needed - Negative drug screen required for all candidates Requirements - Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration - Minimum 1 year of RN experience required - BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required - Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required - Level 1 trauma experience required - Previous travel nurse experience required; no first-time travelers - Heparin titration experience required Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-627287.
