Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/17/2025 - Duration: 18 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical position in an adult specialty unit at a Level I trauma center, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification. Responsibilities - Work in an adult medical specialty unit within an acute hospital setting - Unit consists of 56 private and semi-private beds - Patient ratios are 1:4-5 during days/evenings and 1:5-6 at night - Patient population includes acute care general med cases such as cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, diabetes complications, respiratory and organ failure, and behavioral health & addictions - Central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes are common - Bipap and Cpap for sleep apnea and airway management - Remote telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs can view strips on the pack or computer - Three 12-hour day shifts per week, 0700-1930, with every other weekend and holiday rotation - Self-scheduling and block scheduling available via API - Floating required to other acute care general med areas (nephrology, neuro, ortho, oncology) - No on-call or standby required - EMR is Epic; Epic experience is preferred - Free charge RN on each floor provides additional support - Patient Care Techs assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and ADLs - Orientation consists of 2-3 shifts with 12 non-billable hours - Professional scrubs of any color permitted; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears - COVID vaccinations are not required - Local pay rate applies to candidates living within 50 miles - First-time travelers will be considered if experience requirements are met Requirements - Active IL RN license required at time of consideration - Current BLS (AHA) certification required - Minimum of 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience - Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required - Epic EMR experience preferred - Travel experience preferred, or experience in a Level I trauma center with Epic Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-623480.
