Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing
in Surgical Acute and Medical Surgical settings. The unit consists
of 63 beds, including private and observation beds.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 4-5 patients per RN during
the day and 5-6 patients at night. Common diagnoses and patient
types include post-operative surgical cases, trauma, and overflow
medical needs. Responsibilities include dressing changes, wound
care, IV therapy, pain management, managing drains, NG tubes, and
central lines. Nurses are expected to maintain good communication
and seek assistance when necessary. There is a charge nurse who
does not take an assignment and a supervisor available 24/7.
Patient care technicians are present on the unit to assist with
vital signs, activities of daily living, and ambulation. Telemetry
monitoring is available; however, bedside RNs are not required to
read strips, as there are dedicated monitor technicians. Shifts are
scheduled from 1900 to 0700, with the expectation of working every
other weekend and holidays. Traveling nurses may float to other
units with the same level of experience. Scrubs of any color are
acceptable for this position. This role includes orientation with a
preceptor as well as training on the electronic charting system.
