Certifications: BLS, ACLS preferred, CCRN or PCCN a plus Must-Have:
- CVICU or Cardiac ICU background - Ability to work in a fast-paced
environment - Strong assessment skills - Critical thinking and
communication skills - Competency in interpreting cardiac strips
Description: The unit consists of 20 private, monitored beds. The
nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3, but can increase to 1:4
depending on patient acuity and population. Common patient types
include stepdown patients from ICU, TAVRs, Ablations, heart
failure, and patients requiring tracheostomy and ventilation
support. Specialty intervention equipment used includes Swan Ganz
catheters, external pacemakers, PICCs, midlines, central venous
catheters, arterial lines, and others. Travelers must have a
minimum of 2 solid years of CVICU experience and be able to care
for complex patients independently. RNs are required to titrate
various drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, and others.
Charge nurses are available 24/7 and do take patient assignments.
Patient Care Technicians are present, with a ratio varying from
1:12 to 1:15. RNs are required to troubleshoot with ventilators,
CPAP, BPAP, and heated high flow. All patients are connected to
Philips monitoring systems, and RNs are expected to read and
interpret strips. Scheduling involves shifts of 12 hours, with
rotations on weekends and holidays. Weekend requirements typically
include every other to every third weekend. There is no call or
standby requirement. Travelers are expected to float across
different levels of care and take a full patient assignment. The
unit seeks proficient nurses in all cardiovascular ICU components,
particularly with experience in managing complex patients.
Temporary pacemakers and IABPs are frequently utilized. Titration
of multiple drips is a common responsibility, given the volume of
