drug-free campus policy Description: This position involves working
in a pediatric acute care setting. The unit shares space with a
hematology/oncology department and has 22 beds designated for
pediatric patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are set at 4 patients
per nurse. Common patient diagnoses include medical/surgical
conditions such as hyperbilirubinemia, neurological disorders,
diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, and COVID-19. Nurses
will collaborate with charge nurses available 24/7 and have access
to administrative supervisor support. Patient care technicians are
available on the unit with a ratio of 1:8-10. A pediatrician is
in-house until approximately midnight, with 24/7 resident coverage.
Registered nurses will not be required to manage respiratory
equipment beyond troubleshooting. There is a pediatric monitor tech
monitoring patients, providing support to nursing staff. Shifts
consist of 12-hour periods from 0700-1930 or 1900-0730. Weekend
work is required every other weekend, and holiday shifts are
mandatory unless prior arrangements are made. Nurses may float
within the children's hospital to other pediatric units, but will
not float to intensive care units unless they have the requisite
experience. Dress code permits any pediatric-appropriate scrub tops
and solid color scrub pants. Unit orientation includes two shifts,
with an option for extension subject to approval. Requirements
