Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 02/16/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Medical Surgical position on a Surgical Acute unit with EPIC experience and an active IL RN license required. Responsibilities - Work in the Surgical Acute unit of a hospital in an acute care setting - Medical Surgical patient population including post-op, trauma, and overflow medical cases - Unit has 63 beds, with a mix of private and observation beds - Nurse to patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights - Some patients are on telemetry monitored by central station; Phillips tele monitors used - Shifts are 12 hours, with available day (0700-1930) and night (1930-0730) options - Every other weekend and rotating holidays are required - Travelers are the first to float and will float to units with similar experience levels - No on-call or standby requirements - Uses EPIC EMR - Responsible for care of post-op surgical, trauma, and medical overflow patients including dressing changes, wound care, and managing drains and NG tubes - RN manages inhalers and places patients on CPAP; respiratory therapy manages nebulizers - Charge RNs and a house supervisor are present on all shifts; charge RNs do not take patient assignments - PCTs support care with vitals, ADLs, and ambulation - Unit orientation includes two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour orientation with the educator and EPIC training - Any color scrubs are permitted - Negative drug screen is required for employment - No COVID vaccine required - Local rate applies to clinicians living within 50 miles of the facility address Requirements - Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration - Current BLS (AHA) certification required - Minimum of 1 year of medical surgical nursing experience - Experience with post-op care, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, central lines, and TPN required - Ability to work effectively in a team and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills - Experience with EPIC EMR is required Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-666930.
