Owens Corning operates more than 140 manufacturing facilities world-wide, with 60 manufacturing facilities across North America. Our sites are subject to a wide range of regulatory requirements related to air emissions. The Environmental Air Compliance Lead goal is to provide corporate leadership and support to the Enterprise Environmental and Sustainability organization, Corporate Environmental Engineering, and Business Unit EHS Leaders related to the management of Air Emissions. The role is a project leader managing the activities of environmental consultants, supporting the needs of Owens Corning personnel, interacting with regulatory officials, and administering a budget. All projects and activities must be lead from the foundation of safety and the necessary safety processes, standards, and practices. Projects entail coordinating air emissions testing projects, providing subject matter expertise on environmental issues and regulations, and assiting the businesses with management systems to maintain regulatory compliance and improve our environmental footprint Reports to : Director, Enterprise Environmental & Operations Sustainability JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Air Compliance (approximately 40%)

  • Develop and implement a global Owens Corning Air Emissions Management System with the purpose of maintaining compliance and minimizing environmental impact.
  • Develop and implement a global Owens Corning Air Permit Internal Auditing program.
  • Review and analyze corporate North American air compliance performance and deploy compliance strategies.
  • Support Owens Corning growth projects that require environmental permitting.
  • Monitor and review evolving and emerging regulations. Assess impact of regulatory changes to Owens Corning.
  • Partner with stakeholders, internal and external, to identify priorities and to develop processes and work plans related to compliance initiatives Air Testing (approximately 40%)
    • Evaluate and manage contracts with environmental consulting and firms to perform air emissions testing.
    • Optimize testing schedules to minimize costs, and improve efficiency of overall testing programs.
    • Develop procedures and scenarios across Owens Corning to standardize testing when appropriate for consistency, consulting with the business units to outline approaches on distinct sampling programs as required
    • Assist the business units engineering organizations by aiding in the design and evaluation of process drawings for items such as stack redesigns and rebuilds
    • Manage a portfolio of Compliance Air Testing and Engineering Air Testing as needed for growth projects; including management of environmental consultants, task execution, on-time delivery and client satisfaction.
      • Liaison between stakeholders
      • Manage and prepare proposals with assistance of consultants for acceptance by the business unit or Director of Regulatory Law
      • Perform invoice and budget reviews for projects, and monitor project budgets to ensure proper and accurate invoicing
      • Work with the facilities during initial stages of project by removing barriers that may adversely affect the schedule or overall testing results and communicate any risks and possible resolutions to management quickly
      • Ensure all resources have proper training to perform job duties
      • Oversee activities and interaction with environmental regulatory agencies during testing
      • Monitor operations during source testing project to ensure the process is performing at required levels
      • Effectively communicate test results and impact of emission results to various stakeholders
      • Analyze and evaluate testing results against known historical results, known changes in production methodology, and possible impediments to providing accurate and verifiable results to stakeholders; may include mathematical operations such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability, and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
      • Ensure all project related reports are completed and submitted on-time Global Support (approximately 20%)
        • Develop and implement standards related to measuring and reporting on Air Quality Sustainability aspects; develop with the cooperation of Corporate Sustainability, Enterprise Environmental, and each Business Unit.
        • Monitor and assess progress of global Owens Corning performance against Air Quality Sustainability Goals
        • Consult on strategies to reduce environmental impact of air emissions; partner with stakeholders, internal and external, to define issues, processes, and priorities; develop an ongoing work plan related to sustainability initiatives
        • Identify, research, and evaluate potential sustainability efforts for feasibility and impact against corporate goals
        • Identify, develop and communicate environmental best practices across all of Owens Corning
        • Develop rigorous and auditable data quality and control programs; perform audits of environmental footprint records to ensure accuracy of data and effectiveness of standards
        • Continuously builds an intimate knowledge of our businesses to provide insightful analysis for comparison of actual results to submitted plans and forecasts.
        • Provide support to the Sustainability Analytics and Reporting team for reporting initiatives; includes data analysis, providing customized reports, graphs and/or models JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
          • 5 years' experience preferred in direct management of air permits (including Title V permitting), performing or overseeing Air Compliance Testing and managing or managing multiple sites.
          • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or another technical related field.
          • Ability to travel 50%. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
            • In-depth knowledge of United States air emissions regulations.
            • Knowledge with Environmental Management Systems and Auditing processes
            • Ability to solve complex problems with multiple stakeholders. Complex problems are those that may involve multiple regulatory schemes, competing business priorities, and uncertain outcomes.
            • Ability to influence others in a matrix organization to accomplish goals and objectives.
            • Ability to assess and manage risk of environmental non-conformity across the organization.
            • Strong user skills for Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including the ability to compose and manage complex Microsoft Excel workbooks and spreadsheets.
