Job Summary Perform mechanical maintenance on equipment and facilities of a large-scale corn milling plant, with a heavy emphasis on Maintenance Reliability. Essential Job Functions

  • Disassembles and diagnoses mechanical failures, and performs difficult repairs on production and facilities equipment as required
  • Performs preventive maintenance duties on vehicles, material handling, and production equipment as required, and maintains knowledge of equipment, operations, and processes throughout the plant
  • Conducts regular inspections of production equipment to determine immediate and future maintenance requirements
  • Installs new equipment as required aligning equipment for production use as required
  • Participates in waste and cost saving programs, providing recommendations for the improvement in related procedures
  • Performs welding tasks as required in repairing plant production equipment
  • Communicates effectively with plant operators in order to anticipate maintenance requirements or repair projects
  • Rebuilds pumps, motors, seals, gearboxes, and similar production equipment, and may discuss equipment purchase decisions with the department lead or supervisor
  • Will provide work direction to less experienced Maintenance Mechanics as required
  • Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements
  • Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned Minimum Job Requirements
    • Strong safety values
    • Basic knowledge of machine mechanical systems acquired through training or experience
    • Ability to use millwright hand tools and power tools
    • Possesses a thorough knowledge of blueprints, equipment specifications and related manuals
    • Basic welding skills
    • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
    • Flexibility in accepting change
    • Communication (spoken and written) and teamwork skills
    • Reliability in reporting to work and willingness to work overtime as required
    • Willingness to participate in training to continue developing skills
    • Able to understand and comply with plant GMP and personnel practice requirements
    • Ability to satisfactorily complete a maintenance aptitude and hands-on test Physical/Mental RequirementsThe employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. In addition, Employees in this position must also be capable of: - Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters. - Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, or sitting for long periods of time. - Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work. - Climbing stairs, and/or vertical ladders of varying heights. - Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights. - Lifting objects of minimum of 10lbs, with maximum single-person lift limit of 50lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying. - Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration. - Visually inspecting equipment and verifying information, often in small print. - Driving and/or operating heavy machinery safely and be alert and aware of surroundings at all times. - Applying sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees. Education/Training
      • High school diploma or equivalent with strong fundamental skills (math, reading, and writing), Associate's Degree preferred
      • Training in identifying and diagnosing electrical problems
      • Familiarity with 3 phase electrical systems
      • Knowledge of NEC code requirements
      • ABC schooling is a strong plus
      • 2-4 years of experience as an electrician, preferably in an industrial maintenance setting
      • PLC and industrial controls experience preferred Experience
        • High school diploma or equivalent with strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing, basic computer skills)
