  • Vision insuranceJob DetailsSUMMARY Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in fabrication and assembly of structural or sheet metal products by performing the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required.Requisitions dies, fixtures, and material.Examines defective welders, machinery, and related equipment to determine cause of malfunction and reports need for machine repairs.Sets up and operates welders and related equipment to make test runs and experimental products.Inspects work in progress and finished products.Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.Performs activities of workers supervised.Responsible for finished product quality and correctness.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises 10 to 15 employees on first shift in the Welding Department. Also coordinates activities of 6 to 10 employees on second and third shift through communications with the second and third shift supervisors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before a group of employees .MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AWS D1.1 Weld Certification preferred.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESStrong blueprint skills including good working knowledge of weld symbols.Working knowledge of Robotic welding.Ability to teach, train, and develop necessary welding skills in employees at all levels.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
