An intern with the Residential Program at Children's Home would be trained to provide direct counseling experience to children ages 8 to 21. Youth placed in residential care have mental health diagnosis, developmental delays and behavioral related issues that would provide interns with a wide variety of experience in the mental health field. Interns would have the opportunity to be part of ongoing trainings, meetings, supervision, and clinical shadowing experiences with our medical, clinical, and counseling staff. Interns would act as integral members of the treatment team and will be expected to positively represent the agency and program at internal and external meetings. On a weekly basis, interns may find themselves gaining experience with individual therapy sessions with a child, family therapy sessions, advocating for the child with their school or other community partners, and teaching social skills to clients. Qualifications: Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field Experience working with children is preferred but not required Ability to work objectively with children who have a variety of mental health issues Ability and judgment to work independently and as part of a team Sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children and families served High degree of confidentiality Strong written and verbal communication skills Must be at least 18 years of age
